Council Bluff Lake

Location: Approximately 25 miles south of Potosi.

Distance: 12.5 miles per lap.

Some people wrestle with big issues. Like "Where did I come from?" or "Is there life after death?" I've got a handle on those. What I really wonder about is why it took me so long to discover this gem of a trail tucked away about 2 hours south of St. Louis.

You are treated to gorgeous lake views for about 80% of this 12.5 mile trail as it loops around Council Bluff Lake. While there is only one climb of any real length, you are seldom on flat ground. Most of the trail rolls over roller coaster like terrain as you work your way around the lake. Throw in plenty of rock gardens, roots, and creek crossings to keep things interesting and you've got Council Bluff.
