Castlewood State Park

Location: Close to the intersection of Ries Rd. and Big Bend in west St. Louis County.

Distance: Multiple trails let you customize the ride. You can ride anywhere from 4 miles up to more than 20 miles if you include the Al Foster trail which will take you out to Glencoe and back.

While a lot of seasoned mountain bikers dismiss this park in favor of the Chubb Trail, I love to ride here. It is not as technically challenging as the Chubb Trail, but it is very fun, nonetheless. With scenic bluff top views, creek crossings, rolling trail next to the Meramec River, fun climbs, fast decents, and plenty of singletrack, you can string together a very enjoyable ride. The main trails within the park consist of: Lone Wolf, Grottpeter, Love, Stinging Nettle, and the Blue Ribbon. If you want to add a bit of mileage, you can hook up with the Al Foster Trail off the back end of the park and get a Katy Trail like ride out to Glencoe and back.
